Google removing restrictions around trademarks – but not in AU


So Google is removing the ability for advertisers to register their trademarks on the search engine (and effectively stop other advertisers buying trademarked terms – ie Toyota buying the term Ford Falcon etc)

It’s rolling it out across 200 countries – https://adwords.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=144298 – but Australia is not one of them.

Competitor purchasing of trademarked terms has been a frustration for some advertisers locally – especially when competitors actively bid against the trademark owner. From first hand experience, locally Google have been diligent in responding to advertiser concern and helping sort out a fair resolution.
